Just turn it off, put it down and recharge it: Induction coils for wireless charging are already to be found in every electric toothbrush and have also long been a feature of ovens and mobile phones. The battery is supplied with current via an electromagnetic field instead of an electric cable. The idea is that electric cars should also benefit from this technology in the future. Induction plates embedded in the ground could provide parked electric cars with power cable-free. Or better yet, the battery would be charged up while the vehicle is driving. Researchers are however still discussing whether the technology is sufficiently effective and suitable for everyday use to justify the high level of investment that would be required.
