“Fake news” used to simply mean news that was false. In the age of Trump, however, fake news has undergone a transformation: from a simple designation of falsified news stories into a political slogan. In this context, the term has also become more popular in the German-speaking world. With the aid of social media, fake news can spread like wildfire – where Social Bots are among the main drivers. One prominent example is the US presidential election of 2016. On the short messaging platform Twitter, social bots generated about one-fifth of all the tweets covering the election campaign.
