Classes D1, D1E, D and DE

The bus is coming!

Next station: bus driver's licence. Regardless of whether it's for public transportation or the travel industry: You are always responsible for the passengers. The requirements for acquiring a driving license have a corresponding importance. You must do more than just step on the gas pedal – you must also be in general good health. The corresponding health check-up and assessment are available at TÜV NORD. Please get on board.

Class D1

Motor vehicles (except those in categories AM, A1, A2 and A)

  • constructed and designed to carry not more than 16 persons in addition to the driver, and
  • with a length of not more than 8 metres, also with trailer
  • with a maximum authorised mass not exceeding 750 kg

Minimum age:

21 years

Requirements:

Class B

Time limit:

-Class D1 is generally only issued for 5 years; thereafter it is extended for a further 5 years after submission of a positive aptitude test (company or occupational health report or MPU report and ophthalmological report).

Notes:

- When the licence is first issued, proof of aptitude must be provided in the form of a company or occupational health report or MPU report and an ophthalmological report. The driving licence can be obtained at the age of 18: for persons during or after completion of vocational training according to 1. the state-recognised training occupation "professional driver", 2. the state-recognised training occupation "specialist in driving operations" or 3. a state-recognised training occupation in which comparable skills and knowledge for driving motor vehicles on public roads are taught.

Class D1E

Class D1 towing vehicles in combination with

  • a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of more than 750 kg

Minimum age:

21 years

Time limit:

Class D1E is generally only issued for 5 years; thereafter it is extended for a further 5 years after submission of a positive aptitude test (company or occupational health report or MPU report and ophthalmological report).

Classes BE

Notes:

The initial issue requires the submission of a company or occupational health report or MPU report and an ophthalmological report as proof of suitability.

The driving licence can be obtained at the age of 18: for persons during or after completion of vocational training according to

1. the state-recognised training occupation "professional driver",

2. the state-recognised training occupation "specialist in driving operations" or

3. a state-recognised training occupation in which comparable skills and knowledge for driving motor vehicles on public roads are taught.

Class D

Motor vehicles (except those in categories AM, A1, A2 and A)

  • built and designed for the carriage of more than 8 persons in addition to the driver and also with trailer
  • with a maximum authorised mass of not more than 750 kg

Minimum age:

24 years

The driver's licence can be obtained at the age of 23: after accelerated basic qualification through training and examination in accordance with § 4 Para. 2 of the Professional Driver Qualification Act (BKrQK)

 

The driving licence can be obtained at the age of 21:

- after completing the basic qualification in accordance with § 4 Para. 1 BKrQG or

- after accelerated basic qualification through training in accordance with § 4 Para. 2 BKrQK in regular services up to 50 km.

 

The driving licence can be obtained at the age of 20 for persons during or after completing vocational training in accordance with

1. the state-recognised training occupation "professional driver",

2. the state-recognised training occupation "driving specialist" or

3. a state-recognised training occupation in which comparable skills and knowledge for driving motor vehicles on public roads are taught.

 

The driving licence can be obtained at the age of 18: for persons during or after completion of vocational training according to

1. the state-recognised training occupation of "professional driver",

2. the state-recognised training occupation of "driving specialist" or

3. a state-recognised training occupation in which comparable skills and knowledge are taught for driving motor vehicles on public roads in scheduled services up to 50 km.

 

Class DE

Class D towing vehicles in combination with

  • a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of more than 750 kg

Minimum age:

24 years

Requirements:

Class B

Time limit:

Class DE is generally only issued for 5 years; thereafter it is extended for a further 5 years after submission of a positive aptitude test (company or occupational health report or MPU report and ophthalmological report).

Classes D1E and BE

Notes:

Proof of aptitude must be provided in the form of a company or occupational health report or MPU report and an ophthalmological report when the licence is first issued.

The driving licence can be obtained at the age of 23: after accelerated basic qualification through training and examination in accordance with Section 4 (2) of the Professional Driver Qualification Act (BKrQK)

The driving licence can be obtained at the age of 21: - after completing the initial qualification in accordance with § 4 Abs. 2 BKrQK in scheduled services up to 50 km.

The driving licence can be obtained at the age of 20 for persons during or after completion of vocational training according to

1. the state-recognised training occupation "professional driver",

2. the state-recognised training occupation "specialist driver" or

3. a state-recognised training occupation in which comparable skills and knowledge for driving motor vehicles on public roads are taught.

The driving licence can be obtained at the age of 18: for persons during or after completion of vocational training according to
