Testing of electromagnetic fields as an important component of market approval
Due to the increasing use of wireless communication, health concerns about the effects of radio frequency radiation are on the rise. TÜV NORD is accredited for most EMF standards and can perform measurements according to harmonized standards to prove the requirements with regard to limiting the exposure of persons to electromagnetic fields, thus demonstrating the compliance of a product with the requirements resulting from RED (2014/53/EU).
Testing of electrical devices according to DIN and standards
DIN EN 50364:2010-11
Limitation of human exposure to electromagnetic fields from devices operating in the frequency range 0 Hz to 300 GHz, used in Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and similar applications
DIN EN 62311:2008-09
Assessment of electronic and electrical equipment related to human exposure restrictions for electromagnetic fields (0 Hz - 300 GHz) (IEC 62311:2007, modified)
Evaluation of human exposure to electromagnetic fields from short range devices (SRDs) in various applications over the frequency range 0 GHz to 300 GHz - Part 1: Fields produced by devices used for electronic article surveillance, radio frequency identification and similar systems (IEC 62369-1:2008)
DIN EN 62479:2011-09
Assessment of the compliance of low power electronic and electrical equipment with the basic restrictions related to human exposure to electromagnetic fields (10 MHz to 300 GHz)
DIN EN 62479:2011-09
Assessment of the compliance of low power electronic and electrical equipment with the basic restrictions related to human exposure to electromagnetic fields (10 MHz to 300 GHz)

EMF & Immission protection - measurements for the protection of people
In order to protect people who are in the vicinity of high-frequency or low-frequency installations, specified limit values for electric and magnetic field strength must not be exceeded. For low-frequency and high-frequency installations of significant power, an assessment of the electromagnetic fields that occur is therefore mandatory and also part of the duty of care, for example in the context of occupational health and safety. Immission protection measurements provide an objective basis for risk analysis or hazard assessment in residential and industrial environments as well as in hospitals. In particular, the more stringent requirements for wearers of medical implants (active and passive), such as pacemakers, must also be taken into account here. TÜV NORD offers these measurements on site - in buildings as well as outdoors - and prepares the corresponding expert reports based on this data.

Reliable measurement data on stipulated limit values of electromagnetic fields
The basis of the measurements, for which we can draw on our many years of experience in the field of electromagnetic field (EMF) measurement and the extensive, modern equipment of our accredited EMC laboratory, includes the following regulations:
- 26th Ordinance on the Implementation of the Federal Immission Control Act on Electromagnetic Fields (26. BImSchV)
- Ordinance on the Verification Procedure for the Limitation of Electromagnetic Fields (BEMFV/2002)
-
EMFV: Ordinance on the Protection of Workers from the Hazards of Electromagnetic Fields (Workplace Safety Ordinance on Electromagnetic Fields - EMFV)
-
Research report 451: Electromagnetic fields at the workplace Safety of employees with active and passive body aids when exposed to electromagnetic fields
- DGUV Regulation 15: Accident Prevention Regulation on Electromagnetic Fields of the German Social Accident Insurance (previously BGV B11)
- European specification: EMF Directive - Occupational Health and Safety Regulation on Electromagnetic Fields according to Directive 2013/35/EU
- DIN EN 50413 (VDE 0848-1) 2009 Basic standard on measurement and calculation methods for the exposure of persons to electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields (0Hz to 300GHz)
Immission protection measurements for power transmission, radio & medical components
The measurements affect manufacturers, operators and users of energy technology equipment such as high-voltage systems or lines, transformer stations and low-voltage systems. In addition, the fulfilment of EMF criteria for industrial and medical applications such as induction furnaces or installations, microwaves and MRI diagnostics must be taken into account. We can also determine the electromagnetic fields of mobile radio, radio or radar systems and evaluate them accordingly.
